Greetings all. Just wanna say a big hi from here in the UK and introduce myself. I'm gonna be moving to wonthaggi early next year to finally be with my fiancé and baby boy, march hopefully (depending on the visa) and i'm glad i managed to find a RC track nearby. My name is Jason but everyone calls me jay so feel free to do so too. I've been into RC cars for about the last 19 or 20 years, that long ago i cant quite remember lol I started off racing off road electric buggies and moved on to i/c or gas buggies as you call them and I've done a few other bits and pieces along the way. I've not done much for the last couple of years cos of work commitments and stuff. i look forward to getting to know you all and even more so getting to get out on the track with you. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming you are quite a new club as you are racing on a bmx track. which from all accounts i wouldn't mind at all, if there anything like the bmx tracks in the UK awesome jumps (i love jumps lol) would be a good laugh. you should put some pics up. and I'm assuming from what i have read so far (not read everything yet) that you don't have a computer timing system or anything as your races are on number of laps rather than timed (which is also something that I've wanted to do, makes making a mistake a bit more costly) I think if you can get more and more people into it and to know where you are you will find the club will soon grow and if you can find a decent bit of spare land going nearby you could go to your local gov and seek some help in getting a track built. you wouldn't need much to start with, as long as you can find some land that you can do anything to. really all you'll need is to borrow a digger or 2 if possible for the day and either some good wood or scaffolding for a rostrum and just some old pipe for track markings and from there just build on it. i hope you get some help with getting your track started and when i get there i am offering my services to do anything i can to help to build. How many people do you normally get come and race? What do most of you guys run? car, motor etc. Do you have to be a club member to race? How many members do you have? How much is club membership? i wanna join up now. Sorry if i seem to have gone on for a while lol, I'm just glad to have found an RC club near to where I'm moving to and would love to be a part of getting the club and a proper track up and running. Please get in touch as it would be nice to get to know some of you before i move out there and get to race with you guys Jay

Hi Jay, Glad to have you an board.
I am currently in talks with the shire here to get some stuff sorted. We had the Australian Distributor of "Nito-X" fuels down for a look at our first race meet, he liked the track setup, we don't use the BMX track as is, we set up some markers and weave in and out of jumps and make use of the burms. The track is very fast and flowing, totally different to a std off-road car track. The shire are letting us modify this track a bit and we are hoping to be allowed to build another track in the same paddock.
OUr first race was awesome, we had about 12 1/8 buggy entries and a monster truck class. We ran heats and in the end there was about 40 people watching and another 20 or so having a drive. We haven't done any formal advertising until the club is formed but once we do we should have heaps of interest. The 2nd meet had a few less spectators but a few more buggy entries. Meet 3 is 2 weeks away. (will get some photos for ya).
Most of us race the 1/8 buggies, there are some truggy entries but the buggies are really taking off. Entries grow as we go on. No members as of yet, but we a looking to start the formal club after we meet with the shire parks and gardens manager. Membership might be around $90 anually, this is depending on what the insurance cost through the Aust Model Car Assoc. Whats left over will go towards club costs, trophies etc etc.
Keep in touch, we are after committee members to lend a hand if you are keen let me know.
Cheers Mick

Yeah i'll be keen to help all i can when i get there mate. i was a member of the BRCA and EFRA for many Years. didnt renew membership last year as i never seemed to have time to go. and couldnt get an entry into the national meetings. i've raced all over europe as part of the british team in the annual european championship meeting.
any help u get from the shire will be good. even if it is just permision to use a bit of land. thats the biggest help they can give to start with. the bigger the club becomes with more members and that it will kinda become a bit of a business. what with membership fees and weekly race fees, u'll soon get money in the bank to buy better equipment for the track.
My local track went from having about 40 drivers turning up to race and just having some old scaffolding for the rostrum and old firemans hoses and similar stuff as track markers which they had to lay out and put away again after every meet. to having around 100 people regularly turn up and having a purpose built enclosed rostrum (for the terrible british weather lol) and having a purpose built track and holding the european championships there just a couple of years ago.
Any thing is possible when u set ur mind to it!
When u decide what ur gonna do about membership and stuff let me know. i'll be top of the list for joining up. i'll be member number 2 lol as obviously u'll be number 1 lol
if there anything i could possibly help u with from here i'll do my best to help however i can.
yeah pix of the track would be great and some pix of the whole area u get to use would be cool too. would like to see it. email them direct to me if u like.
what buggy and engine combo's r most common there? i have a mugen mbx5 and an RB engine. i also got a couple of toys lol. i got a fully loaded losi mini-t (only standard part is 1 gear in the gearbox lol) not run it yet tho. still waiting for the shell to finished. and again a fully loaded losi micro-t, i couldnt resist it. they look so cool i think. and again the only standard parts r the gearbox internals. i had a FG Marder with the 26cc engine in it. now that thing was awesome, unfortunately that was just too big for me to think of bringing it with me so i sold it to my bro. so at least i know it getting a good thrashing lol

No mugens here, bit to expensive. We're runnning hyper 8's and 7's mostly with the mac 28's. i reckon after the mac's blow up there'll be a few more rb's around and maybe even some rossi cobra's. I just scored a 2nd hand(WS7II .21) one for $150 so I'm pretty keen to see what the difference is.
I have a hyper 8, got some pro bits coming so it'll be a heap tougher around the rear suspension. I'm gonna mount the rb on this and see how it is. I've also got a rex-x pro that is fun to race with, not quite up to the hypers but tough as. I also scored an MTA-4 monster truck with the Ek.70 in it, serious torque. If you give it anymore than 1/3 throttle in first gear it flips straight on it's back!!
Will keep you posted on what's going on.
Cheers Mick

I had a hyper 7 a few years back when they first came out. was a great car to drive and had some great results with it. i might not even be able to bring the mugen with me. so i'll be looking to get something when i get out there.

looking forward to seeing you here early next year.
if you cant bring your mugen along, the hobao's (hypers) are easy to get parts for here, and the PRO kits really are very nicely set up, i myself have a losi 8ight T with an LRP z.28 spec 3 in it, it's my favorite car to drive, but i cant get specific parts for it in AUS, i can use some of the buggy version parts, but if i need a arms or the such i have to order from the states.
i gotta ask you about your mardar, i'm planing on buying a HPI baja 5B kit later this year, but a lot of the guys think they are a wast of money, since you've had a large scale, how do you think they compare to the smaller cars, most of the guys think because it is only two wheel drive it will be uncontrollable.

i thought that the marder was very controllable for its size. rode bumps well and jumped well. if u've got a big area to use them they r excellent. i've seen them on you tube with an added nitrous oxide system on it from rb innovations in the usa, they also do super chargers for most rc cars and trucks, they make a big difference. check out www.rbinnovations.com there products look awesome. i've even seen clips on there where some guys have put an electric brushless motor in one, looked quicker than the petrol motor. i dont know a lot about the hpi baja tho so i cant comment on what they are like but being hpi i would say they are pretty well made. And as for 4wd they are available!!! QIKAZZ in wonthaggi have them on there website. made by MCD. as there isn't much diff in price between that and the hpi i think i would have to give the 4wd a go. cos in theory it should be better. At the moment for me tho i am really into the idea of 1/18th u can race near enough anywhere. indoors in any small hall or in ya back garden. and it easier for me to bring over with me. My mini-t just waiting for my shell to come back my mate spraying it for me. My Micro-t again waiting for the shell. should get them this week

it will be good to finely see a nice brush less setup, i dont think many people there believe me when i say brushless will give nitro a run for it's money, but trust me, RB innervations is snake oil, there "superchargers" are run off of a rubber band on the flywheel, and from everything i can find are no better built then a few lego blocks, even if it worked it doesn't take a genius to know forced induction doesn't work on loop scavenging two strokes.

i reckon if u put a brushless in an 1/8th buggy it would be nearly identical speed maybe even quicker.
i must admit that the super chargers do look a bit basic in there build quality. but from the vids ive seen they do make a difference. just not enough for what they cost.
my mini-t has the Dynamite C4 brushless in it with the quark pro 33A esc and i've manage to squeeze in a 11.1v 2000mah 3 cell lipo in to it. i put a ball diff in it but i had a bit of a test with it on the drive and didnt get over about 1/5 throttle and the diff seems to have come loose. i might just put a standard 1 back in to see how it goes. but it gonna be crazy fast.
do u have any rc mags over there?

The vids i've seen on youtube, the brushless 1/8 would leave any nitro for dead. There maybe two of them coming to our race meets. I like electric, but the power they need is expensive .

Jay
Im looking forward to meeting you, your cars certainly look the part. Let us know when you get into town so we can catch up.
I have 2 customers that just done brushless conversions on thier Losi LTS2's, im yet to see them go, but I do beleive that they are far faster in all aspects compaired to the Nitro's
Cheers

i reckon if u put a brushless in an 1/8th buggy it would be nearly identical speed maybe even quicker. Jay, A friend and I have just completed two E-LST2 conversions and have performed some definitive 'top speed' measurements which show an improved top speed of around 8Kph against our layman tuned Nitro's:-) As for acceleration, no point in measuring as the E's are much quicker off the mark than our original Mach 426! Not quite ready to race them yet as we are still ironing out the warts, we will also be totally 'newbies' to any RC track racing as we originally purchased them for general bashing.

Mick, We plan on coming down Saturday 17th to have a look, will probably bring one of the E-LST2's down, although we are not quite ready to race and having had a quick look at the track last weekend will need a bit of practice before we try with more than one car on the track:-)

Hi Delboy,
Cool, be good to meet you and see the conversion you've done. We're generally down there from about 9.30-10 onwards. Come down anytime before and you'll be able to get a few laps in if you like. We're probably gonna put the LST-2's in with the truggy's as they would give the trucks a hiding, and your's would be worse by the sound of things.
Talk soon
Cheers Mickf

this is going to be good, the way i see it brushless might be expensive to start with, motor/s, ESC, bats, good charger ect, but in the end it's made up for by not having to buy fuel, me and ad have spent about $600 this year just in fuel, what set-up are you running the the E-LST2's? i've seen people put the NEU 1515 1.5D in a revo and this was the result lol, pretty impressive, and with only 3500 MAH batts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=siBaaRF5TuQhey know the LST2's are gonna get mauled in with the truggies right?
